From the CEO

We are nearing the end
of the 2010 financial year. Sales in general in the dealer market
remain buoyant and at Auto-IT we have exceeded our financial and
sales targets, and are looking forward to the approaching financial
year with cautious optimism.
Auto-IT is a vendor of retail Dealer Management Systems. A massive
amount of resource is expended by us in continually improving our
product offerings in line with Worlds best practice and this is
reflected in a continued steady growth in our client base.
Our fortunes are inextricably linked to the viability of our
Dealership customers in the domestic marketplace and we will
ultimately succeed or fail in direct relation to our ability to
understand and react to the needs of these customers.
Since the beginning of the current financial year the number of
licensed users of Auto-IT’s software products increased by a total
of 2,269 users to reach an all time high of 17,485. This represents
an average of 269 new users licensed to utilise our dealer
management software in each month of the current financial year. Our
dealer systems now run the businesses of 450 dealerships in an
estimated 1100 locations. Further, as we mature as a company the
average size of our new dealer customers is growing and many
of our new dealer clients are proprietors of sizeable multi
franchise dealerships in multiple locations and in excess of 150
users per dealer group.
None of us know what’s ahead in the new financial year. The
fallout from the taxation proposals in the Australian resource
sector cherry picked from the Henry report, could have far reaching
consequences. And recent events in Europe where the financial
securities of entire countries have recently been relegated to junk
bond status leave us struggling to predict good times ahead any time
soon. This convinces us of the absolute necessity of providing real
value in the supply of our products and services.
At Auto-IT we are single-mindedly focused on the provision of new
generation enterprise software products designed to help our clients
efficiently run their businesses, irrespective of what the economy
might throw at them. We pride ourselves on
achieving the following:
-
Moderately priced
Dealer Management software embracing the latest in technology
but capable of holding its own against any global competitor.
-
Regular web-based
training programs designed to make user training more relevant
and much more affordable.
-
Dealership process
improvement programs designed to maximise the efficiency of our
dealer systems and to guarantee more profitable outcomes from
our customers’ investment in technology. You will hear a lot
more of this service in coming months.
-
Auto-IT’s internal
processes for writing, testing, deploying, and supporting our
software products have been subject to intense scrutiny and we
are now proud of the robustness of our quality control programs.
This will be manifested in the high level of stability our users
can expect when we roll out the latest production release of
UNITS®
/ EQUIP®
over the next few weeks and PMDS®
over the next few months,
We are very much
looking forward to the new financial year but have no doubt there
will be challenges aplenty in the Dealer market ahead of us.
At Auto-IT we will do our best to make sure that the partnership
between our company and its valuable customers will continue to
flourish and as the CEO I will always welcome personal contact from
customers at any time on my mobile phone number +61 432 689 688.

Presidential Double
Congratulations to the team at Dubbo City Toyota on winning both the
NSW Rural Dealer of the Year Award and the Toyota President’s Award
for 2009. This is an outstanding achievement and these awards
represent the ultimate motor industry challenge.
Dubbo
City Toyota has gone from strength-to-strength under the leadership
of General Manager David Hayes (pictured) who took over in 2007.
With a modern showroom, featuring class-leading facilities and 49
enthusiastic staff, they've worked hard to maintain existing
customer loyalty and continue to build a strong following.
Likewise, the impressive family business of Dwyers in Bairnsdale,
Victoria, has also taken
delivery of the highly-coveted Toyota statue - their second in as
many years. The Toyota President’s Award is only given to the top 15
dealers in the country each year and to be considered
eligible for the award, a dealer must exceed all of
Toyota’s performance benchmarks across seven key areas – from client
satisfaction and vehicle servicing, to business management and
dealership facilities.
Newly-promoted Dealer Principal, Anthony Dwyer
(pictured), said this win carried a particularly sweet taste for his father,
Kevin Dwyer, who just completed his last year in that role. Anthony
sums up, “We’ve all worked incredibly hard for this and to win the
award two years in a row is especially difficult. The first one took
a huge effort, however as soon as you win, the bar is lifted a few
notches so the second one was even tougher. It probably carries a
bit more meaning for us too because we’re a genuine family-owned
business and have been for 110 years.”
Auto-IT knows that these achievements are the result of twelve months
of intense effort, dedication and professionalism far beyond the
norm and for that we salute both Dubbo City and Dwyers. As users of
our Dealer Management Systems, your association with Auto-IT and
your recent successes are a source of great pride and satisfaction
for all of us.

Dwyers'
Journey to the Top
Dwyers' story is a colourful one – the kind
that illustrates the sort of persistence, longevity and credibility
that many businesses strive for.
In begins in 1898, when a young Jeremiah Dwyer built
his small blacksmith and farriery business in Nicholson St,
Bairnsdale. Over the years, the business was expanded to cater for
the manufacture and repair of farm implements. In 1906, he married
Jane Giles and built a home on broad acre land in Picnic Point, now
known as 24 Riley St, West Bairnsdale.
Jeremiah had built a successful coach building business when the
first motorised vehicles arrived in 1927 in the form of both Hillman
and Rover franchises, which he began selling. The Great Depression
that followed saw many customers paying with a barter system –
pumpkins and chickens weren’t uncommon – survival was a day-to-day
proposition.
By 1939, American brands Rugby, Graham Paige, Dodge, Hudson and
Chrysler were introduced at Dwyers, along with Diamond T Trucks and
Austin cars. When WWII started, vehicle supplies stopped dead, sales
evaporated and everything turned to war production, whilst staff
levels dwindled as they took up National Service. By this time
Jeremiah’s son, John, had been working in the business for 12 years
and would continue for decades to follow until son Kevin would take
over. In 1955, Kevin began work for the dealership - in the Spare
Parts department.
When
Dwyers’ was appointed the Toyota franchise in 1991, they had
presided over record sales of more than a dozen iconic brands,
including MG, Triumph, Wolseley, Jaguar, Datsun (and later Nissan)
and Daimler. This also triggered the relocation from their
historical site in Nicholson St to the Princes Hwy site they occupy
today.
In 1997, Dwyers’
longest-serving employee, Lui Mosele, retired after 48 years of
loyal service under all four generations of the Dwyers family.
Today, with a trophy cabinet full of awards recognising achievements
in every aspect of their business, and a loyal team - many of whom
have served two and even three decades - the Dwyers business
continues to deliver that rare and coveted mix of genuine family-flavoured
service and operational proficiency.
As
Anthony now steers the family business into the next era, Kevin must
surely be pleased. Third-generation businesses are notorious for
their propensity to fail. But he has done something that few others
have managed and the delivery of that statue in his last year as
Dealer Principal should serve as a perpetual reminder.
He’s done his job and he's done it well.

Useful Tips
After Sales Transaction Reversals
Stock Units sales cannot be reversed if they have After
Sales transactions. The stock costs must be taken back to
the pre-sale level first.
There are two types of After Sale transactions:
1) After Sales
transactions with no after sales flag.
These can
be reversed by entering Stock Units Cost Adjustments.
2) After Sales transactions with an after sales flag.
These must
be reversed with a transaction which also has an After Sales
flag. (usually w/shop invoices and creditor invoice entries)
These are best entered via Creditors Invoices entry to a
dummy Creditor a/c (making sure that the GST is zeroed out).
Once the above 2 items have been correctly dealt with, you
can reverse the sale, add back the additional transactions
(in the same way they were reversed) and re-build the
stock units costs before re-selling it.
Also note that the Stock Units Rebuild Utility ignores
transactions with an After Sales flag. Please make sure that
all effected staff members have a copy and understand it.
Parts
Assembly - Selling Bulk Materials by Portion
Many dealerships buy bulk fluids or lengths of materials
that are sometimes required to be separated for use in the
workshop. Example: a bulk drum of oil at 205 litres.
Although some of the drums may be retailed by the drum, the
workshop may need to be able to sell from the drum in litre
portions. The Parts Assembly program in Units®
has the ability to allow this.
The department
will have to create a new part number for the process. The
part can be set in the current franchise or in the franchise
set up for the Service department. The following diagram
explains how to utilise the assembly program. The job code
does not need to be used but is there as an added function,
if the part is required to be added to a job code.
1. Enter the branch, franchise and part number to be
assembled in the top fields of the screen.
2. Enter the branch and genuine part number that is to be
used in the process.
Note: The Job Code field does not have to be used.
3. Press the build button and this will sell one drum and
purchase individual quantities.
